I always tell this story to my friends and relatives. This is about one of my friend’s elder sister. This story is about her strong will power and determination to do something in life. It is an inspiring story of struggle and perseverance.
The Family
My friend’s family was conservative and orthodox. Girls were considered a big liability. Parents wanted to get rid of them as soon as possible by getting them married at an early age. It is quite common in my native place and especially in rural areas.
Let’s call her Didi. She married very early, around age of 16–17. She had just finished her 10th standard, and her parents started searching for a groom for her. Within a few months, they found an alliance. He was doing some petty jobs, not having a full-time job or any other occupation at all. Didi was very fond of studying; she wanted to study further, but her parents did not allow her and got her married.
The Marriage
After marriage, she somehow convinced her in-laws and continued her studies. She cleared 12th std, then graduation, then masters, and then B.Ed. She started working as a government teacher. All this while having two kids and handling all the responsibilities. Now she works as a Principal in a High School. Her both the kids are doing well. The elder son is into some business and the daughter is an engineer working with a big multinational company in Bangalore.
The Poet
Last but not least, she is a poet also. Her poetry has published in various local news papers and publications. Also she has travelled around 8–10 countries to participate in poetry conferences and read her poetry.
This story always inspires me. Didi’s life is a live example of struggle and strong will power. It tells you that If you decide something, nothing can stop you.
