On Father’s Day

My father’s life and his struggles inspired me to fight and never give up

A father holds a significant place in one’s life. He is your first hero, someone you look up to from childhood and try to become like. I consider myself very fortunate that my father has done things in his life that are not only inspiring to me but also to many others. My father worked in a government job. I had to leave home at a young age for my studies. Although many of his qualities have positively influenced my life, I would like to mention one aspect that reflects his strong willpower and patience.

My father joined a government job in 1979. He was quite young at the time—only 19 years old. He had completed his 11th grade and was preparing for further studies when he came across an advertisement for a clerk position in the state government and applied for it. Fortunately, he was selected and accepted the job.

However, he had a strong desire to continue his education and couldn’t let go of that dream. He decided to continue studying as a private candidate. But balancing work responsibilities with studies was extremely difficult. Let me also mention that my father got married at the age of 16, and by the time he got the job, he had already been married for three years.

On one side were family responsibilities, and on the other, the burden of work. Despite all this, he resolved to continue his education. But as expected, he couldn’t devote much time to his studies. By 1982, both my younger brother and I were born, making it even harder for him to focus on academics. Yet, my father’s determination remained unshaken.

He began his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in 1979, which he finally completed in 1994. Some years he passed a few papers, and in others, he had to start over from the first year. Sometimes he cleared the first and second years but got stuck in the third. Still, he never gave up on his dream. When he finally completed his B.A. in 1994, he was 35 years old. It felt odd to sit for exams alongside 19- and 20-year-olds, but he never let that bother him. His only goal was to earn his degree. This has been a great source of inspiration for me.

For 15 years, without getting discouraged or caring about what others thought. He remained committed to his goal of completing his B.A., no matter how long it took. My father has always said that no task is impossible if we set a clear goal and work sincerely toward it. Even today, whenever I find myself in difficult situations, this story from my father’s life reminds me that nothing is impossible. With the right direction, dedication, and determination, even the toughest challenges can be overcome.
